July 2017 Show and Tell

This month was scheduled for 'Show and Tell' and we had lots to show, from works in progress to finished items. We also had a Stash sale to raise some funds for the group, thanks to Liz - Project Linus co-coordinator. These will come in useful for the hire of some quilt stands for an exhibition we are taking part in at the beginning of September, more details to follow on that in a later post. We also had some nice donations for Project Linus, which our members support with enthusiasm.

Let's start with some of the quilts.

Finished Twist quilt from our Jellyroll workshop

We set a challenge to make blocks in black and white with one colour of your choice. This is the third quilt in the series made from the resulting blocks.
Snowball design from a workshop

Sampler quilt in progress from last years demonstrations, QAYG assembled in strips

Giant Dahlia quilt from the first workshop we ran with Paula Doyle

Then we had some smaller quilts

A panel quilted with metallic thread and bead embellishment, gives a lovely sparkle you cannot see well in this photo.

This is a lovely pattern, hand pieced as borders around a central medallion, it is coming along, but a fair way to go.

These hexagon flowers were made by the group and are being stitched together by a dedicated member - hoping to have it finished for the exhibition.

Another hexagon quilt, this one using smaller hexagons. this technique is useful when travelling, as it is easily portable hand stitching.
Now for some smaller items

Dragon for a Grandchild

The front and back of a reversible table runner

Butterfly in hexagons, will be appliqued with embroidered antennae

One of a series of blocks for inclusion in a quilt

Jenny Rayment sampler WIP

Another Sampler quilt WIP

Pieced block with mitred borders made from husbands old shirt

Two sides of a bag demonstrating the use of printed panels and applique

Lovely shoulder bag made from fat quarters from the stash
These quilts were donated to Project Linus

How cute is this panel?

This one is from blocks made at Olympia in March

Two T-shirt quilts - a popular pattern for Linus

Made from some unpromising black fabric, if you add enough bright colour to the top and a bright yellow backing, you end up with something more cheerful.
Lastly, for those interested, an exercise in the use of a design wall from the Modern Quilt Group, the pattern is Interlocking Pluses. Click on the link to the website where you will find tutorials and patterns for modern quilt designs, including this one.
