About Us

'Quilters of  Sutton' was originally set up to raise funds for and organise the Sutton Town Twinning Quilt Exhibition held in April 2012. The Exhibition was a joint concern by two groups, namely the SCOLA quilting class and the 'Lavender Girls', a private evening class run by Juanita Dodd, at Woodmansterne. The combined group was affiliated to the Quilters Guild of the British Isles as the 'Quilters of  Sutton'. A year after the exhibition, it was decided to formalise the group, outside of the original founding groups. As an independent group we offer a social and informative gathering for like minded members.

Although not a formal teaching group, we have a varied program of events, covering subjects such as:
  • Projects, including Christmas decorations and charity quilts & items.
  • Technique demonstrations and show and tell discussions. These give participants the opportunity to try something new, and discuss problems or difficulties they may have encountered in their own projects.
  • Invited speakers come and talk to us. This may be quilt artists talking about their methods of working and inspiration, talks about fabric related exhibitions and collections or members prepared to talk about their experiences of, for example, City and Guilds courses.

Meeting room

The number of members is restricted by the size of the venue where we hold our meetings. This is currently at The Trinity Centre, Wallington, on the first Thursday evening of the month. The dates booked and activities planned can be found under Programme.
