June and July Sutton Community fayres

QoS were invited to take part in two community fayres in Sutton.

The first was held in Manor Park on Sunday 22nd June, a lovely sunny day. Three members took part, with the help of one tall husband to put up the gazebo. We all took along a 'work in progress'. We had our manual, some T-shirt blocks and examples of Christmas decoration projects. We had also made some picture boards of the Hearts and T-shirts charity projects and one for the Giant dahlia workshop. We had our group flyers and Project Linus details to give out to interested people along with a small display of simple block quilts and the bags we had carried some of it in. We had a lovely day speaking to people about our group activities and trying to encourage all those who say they cannot sew to have a go. People seemed to be impressed with our work and often enquired if it was for sale.

The second fayre was on Sunday 6th July at Sutton Green.Four members took part, two of us setting up, with the help of a husband to put up the gazebo. Two more members came to help in the afternoon. Although the day started cloudy the sun came out and lots of people came to the fayre. We tried to have a different range of items on display along with the photo boards, T-shirt blocks, Christmas decorations, QoS manual and flyers. It seemed from the comments we had received at Manor Park that people who say they cannot sew find the thought of making even a simple small quilt intimidating. With that in mind we took along a selection of smaller projects, bags, table runners and mats and small wall hangings. Once again people seemed very interested in what we do and asked if items were for sale. We gave out more flyers, hopefully we will have a few more visitors and prospective members for the group.

June and July meetings

The June and July meetings gave rise to the delivery of more Hearts Tombola items. The T-shirt quilts were both layered and the bindings were being applied. At July's meeting one of these was finished and given to Liz for delivery next week. See the gallery for pictures.

We had another update on progress with the Paula Doyle workshop. There are some lovely pieces of work being produced.

July saw demonstrations on two applique techniques, using Sunbonnet Sue and Overall Bill, and a variety of methods available for marking quilting designs. We hope to use the applique blocks to make another Project Linus quilt.
