December 2015: Christmas is upon us.....

Our final meeting of 2015. Christmas nibbles, Christmas Projects and an Open Evening for The Holy Trinity Church in Wallington.

The venue where we hold our monthly meetings, has for the last year, undergone some major work both internally and externally.  The church reopened this month - and our meeting coincided with their open evening.  The best news for our little group on the finished work is - of course - we get to park in the car park again and not the other side of Wallington!!!! The church is truly stunning - a great venue perhaps for a Quilt show!

Christmas nibbles, drinks and chatting was on the menu tonight.

Our sample Sampler Block were displayed, along side some previously made quilts made by members.

And many, many projects being finished - many because Christmas just around the corner....

Some members of our group also belong to the WI, and tonight they presented Liz, our Project Linus co-ordinator with 13 mini quilts.  Here's a small selection.

Wishing you all a Wonderful Christmas.  Our next meeting will be February 4th 2016.  We will be demonstrating the first four blocks of our 'Block a Month' quilt. Please bring a notepad and pen,  photocopies will be available.

November 2015 - Individual projects

Usually at our meetings we are gathered around a group of tables in the middle of the room. This month the tables were individually placed around the room and we sat as small groups. This seemed a nice arrangement and appeared to lead to more conversation. Perhaps we should try it again. We had 19 members in attendance and a variety of projects were being undertaken.

Christmas projects were being enthusiastically embraced.

Advent bunting - each pennant is a pocket

A tree decoration made from fabric covered bottle caps and two pennant pockets.

Fairy, origami triangles and a pillow wreath.

A couple of lovely appliqué projects

One black and white challenge quilt completed and a simple child's quilt made with flannel fabric.

A variety of hexagons in progress.

Sea themed child's quilt and a work in progress from the Mary Gamester workshop earlier in the year.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing what we get up to. Next month we are having Christmas nibbles and a show and tell with progress on Christmas and personal projects and sample blocks from next years BOM sampler quilt.

On the 14th of November QoS are attending the Wallington Methodist Church Table Top Market, which takes place at the same time as the Wallington Farmers Market. The Table Top sale is open from 10 am to 2 pm in the  Wallington Methodist Church Hall, Beddington Gardens, Wallington SM6 0HU. The Church will be selling tea, coffee, cake and light lunches.

October 2015: Madness

I can honestly say, I just don't know where the two hours went tonight.  The evening was very busy - we had extra tables tonight, and many, many extra people!!  The room was alight with lots of chatting and laughter - just as a quilting group should be.  Much discussion took place about our forthcoming (Feb 16) Block of the Month activity - with fabric selected for samples to be made by the committee members.  Communication quilts were discusses for the forthcoming (Mar 16) Town Twinning Exhibition.

We had a little fund raising within the group.   We set up the items made a few months back, for group members to purchase for Christmas gifts.  A very generous offer from our local bee keeper quilter - selling her bumper harvest of honey -of a kind donation of 10% per jar sold - every little helps!!

We were shown the results of the Mary Gamester workshop from one member of the group.

We played with the black and white blocks and made three stunning quilts.  The will be put together and quilted.

And of course the evening would not be complete without the variety of personal projects the members work on when not at the meetings.

Christmas projects are already on the go for some members.

And the group is preparing for the Christmas projects starting next month - remember to dig out that Christmas fabric!

Next months meeting will be November 5th - stay warm and join us!
