We had a selection of quilts handed over to our Project Linus Rep - these are from individual members, as opposed to group quilts.
We had our first Black and White Challenge Blocks handed in - what a great selection and some interesting interpretations of Black and White with one other colour. When joined together this will make a very interesting quilt. Members have until the September AGM to enter a block (including handing in on the evening) - it's just for fun but members can vote for their favourite one. Remember - Black and white fabric with one additional colour - finished size must be 12.5" (as they will be joined together) you have the choice to do an unquilted block as shown - or a completed wall hanging, place mat, cushion or table runner -the choice is yours! Have a bit of fun!
We had Christine demonstrate the piping technique this evening, it is always useful to get another technique under your belt - and this one can be used for all sorts of sewing - not just quilting! You can find detailed instruction on piping here.
Work in Progress from members was once again on display - a great selection of large and small ongoing projects.
Some hand stitching for our B&W challenge, and some foundation piecing for Christmas
Some experimenting with fleece and cotton for a doll's blanket, some placements for the dining room table.
Quilting, and continuation with some English piecing - both of these look fantastic - it's been great to see them grow.
Some hand sewing for a larger quilt -quilt as you go blocking for this one and some hand appliqué
Some English patchwork for next years fund raising basket and some squares for a Project Linus quilt
Even some knitting and crochet came out to play!
Our next meeting is August the 6th, which will be a Stitch and Share evening - bring along your WIP or something you have finished - even your work from the Mary Gamester workshop last month. This will be an evening to hold your patchwork high and be proud!! You could even start your B&W Challenge block during the evening - someone will be able to help if you are unsure on how to start!
Also, with our AGM in September, we are very much looking for ideas for the coming year. Workshops, techniques you may wish to learn, maybe some more 'challenges', please start to think about what YOU would like to do within the club. Please let Christine or another committee member have your ideas over the next few weeks so we can start planning.
